Golden Globes 2021 — What Time They Start and How to Watch

by Buzz Street Times

Who, what, when, where, how, AND why!

If you’re anything like me, the passage of time no longer has any meaning and you’re just floating through the vacuum of space with no real direction or end in sight. So you might have forgotten that the 2021 Golden Globes are, in fact, tonight.

But don’t worry your pretty little head, my dear friends! I’m here to fill you in on absolutely EVERYTHING you need to know before tonight’s big award show begins, which will be kicking off a sure to be VERY weird 2021 awards season!

To keep this as simple as possible, let’s just stick with the six nouns, shall we? Here we go:

1.

Who(‘s Hosting?): Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Talk about making an impression. Amy and Tina have us laughing out loud already. We can’t wait to see what they have planned for the #GoldenGlobes tonight at 8pm ET/5pm PT on @nbc.

Two of the most hilarious Golden Globes hosts in history are back for their fourth time around (seriously, if you need a giggle, I implore you to watch their previous hosting monologues here and here and here). But, this time around — because of COVID — the two will be hosting the show virtually from opposite coasts! Yay technology!

2.

What (are the biggest nominations/snubs?): Despite 2020 being a very weird year for movies and TV (and literally everything else), there were still some exceptional films and shows released throughout the year!

For Film:

Best Picture nominations for Drama include: The Father, Mank, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Best Picture nominations for Comedy/Musical include: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Hamilton, Music, Palm Springs, and The Prom.

Other important things to know: Chadwick Boseman has been posthumously nominated for Best Actor for his work in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, while the Best Director category has — for the first time ever — three women nominated at once: Emerald Fennel for Promising Young Woman, Regina King for Regina King for One Night in Miami, and Chloé Zhao for Nomadland.

For TV:

HBO, / ©CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corp.) / Courtesy Everett Collectio

Best Drama Series nominations include: The Crown, Lovecraft Country, The Mandalorian, Ozark, and Ratched.

Best Comedy/Musical Series nominations include: Emily in Paris, The Flight Attendant, The Great, Schitt’s Creek, and Ted Lasso.

Other important things to know: Netflix’s Emily in Paris — a TV show that exists — was somehow nominated for an award while HBO’s I May Destroy You — the single most moving, incredible work I’ve seen on TV in years — was not, so…there’s that.

When (is it airing?): 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST

The show itself starts at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST, but there are also the usual preshows, beginning with E!’s Countdown to the Red Carpet at 6 p.m. EST/3 p.m. PST. After that, there’ll be the Golden Globes Preshow airing on NBC at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST hosted by Jane Lynch and Susan Kelechi Watson.

4.

Where (can I watch it?): On NBC

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey go together like Golden and Globes ❤️

Drop a photo of you and your best friend to wish these two besties luck on hosting The #GoldenGlobes — tonight at 7PM ET/4PM PT on NBC!

The show is airing live on NBC (as always), but — in case you don’t have cable — it will also be available on most streaming platforms, including Hulu+, Sling TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, the Roku Channel, and Fubo TV.

5.

How (will it all work, given the pandemic?): It’ll be a mixture of virtual AND in-person!

NBC

While the hosts and nominees will be appearing virtually from all over the world, the presenters were asked to appear in-person to present from either the Rainbow Room in New York City or the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles (with producers of the show stating there will be “strict COVID precautions” in place). Some of tonight’s presenters include: Awkwafina, Ava DuVernay, Gal Gadot, Kevin Bacon, Salma Hayek, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Michael Douglas, Angela Bassett, Margot Robbie, and Sterling K. Brown (just to name a FEW)!

6.

Why (should I watch it?): Because it’ll be fun!

IDK, it’s an award show and an excellent distraction from our daily hellscape!!! And also, pretty dresses and suits, maybe?! And jokes?! Funny Fey and Poehler jokes?! And Regina King (who I worship as my actual monarch) will be there?!

So there ya have it! Be sure to follow all of our coverage of tonight’s event here! Anyway, love y’all!
