“You can still accomplish great things and also have those be part of you.”

When she’s playing Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, Brie Larson is confident and bold.

She starred in the first female-led superhero film in the Marvel franchise.

However, in a recent YouTube Q&A video, she revealed that she hasn’t always felt that way.

In honor of Captain Marvel‘s two-year anniversary, she talked about what it was like to find out she’d been cast in the lead role.

“Something I know I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again because it’s so important to me, is that if…you are somebody that struggles, perhaps struggles with social anxiety, anxiety, depression, or just is somebody that is shy, quiet, these are all things that I identify with myself,” she said.

“It doesn’t mean it has to be a limitation in any way. You can still accomplish great things and also have those be part of you.”

One more time, because I’m probably not the only one who needs to get this tattooed on me: “You can still accomplish great things and also have those be part of you.”

Brie went on to describe how playing Carol was unlike any role she had before. The superhero was different because she was so inspirational to so many people.

In a previous YouTube video, Brie said that playing Captain Marvel helped her on her journey toward self-confidence.

Well, I, for one, am feeling pretty inspired by what Brie had to say. I’m really glad to see someone in Hollywood — and a superhero, at that — talking about her experiences with the same kind of anxiety so many other people live with.
